In the United Kingdom, the show is broadcast on BBC Two under the title Win the Wilderness: Alaska. The Series Also Airs On The BBCĪmerican viewers are familiar with Win the Wilderness as a Netflix series, but that isn’t the only platform it airs on. However, the harsh winter conditions proved to be too difficult and it was decided that spring made for more favorable filming conditions. That being said, producers initially had the idea of filming the series during winter. When most people think of Alaska, snow-covered winters are the first thing that comes to mind. ![]() The Series Was Supposed To Be Filmed In The Winter Here are 10 things you didn’t know about Win the Wilderness.ġ. The 2020 series, Win the Wilderness, was a great example of that. One thing that differentiates Win the Wilderness from other shows is that you get to see various survival tactics in action, as each couple has their own strengths, weaknesses, and knowledge, but no one here is in real danger.Competition shows will never get old, and that’s largely because production companies keep finding new and exciting things for people to compete over. ![]() By using the analyse options, you can add all kinds of “non standard” metadata to beaTunes, which makes its playlist functions work properly. Now, you can do this in iTunes, by playing your collection at random, or setting iTunes to give you a playlist of all the stuff from the past 90 days, or sorting by genre, etc etc, but the problem with these methods of listening to your music are that the first one is just too random, and the others impose hard-and-fast rules on you (in the case of sorting by date added, no chance to hear something new against something old in case they’d actually mix great together, and in the case of constructing genre playlists, no chance to hear if a house tune and a techno tune might share something you hadn’t thought of). Not only does it give me ideas for my DJ sets and mixtapes, but it also helps me decide when a track or tracks are past their sell-by date (that’s something else I tell my students: If you don’t think you’ll play it again, get rid of it…). Not only the new stuff, but old stuff I may have forgotten about. So for me, finding ways to constantly listen to my collection to better get to know it is really important. Your DJ collection is no place for great big piles of tunes you don’t know off by heart, can’t immediately think of something else to mix with, and – even worse – maybe haven’t even listened to at all! If you have any tunes in your collection you can’t honestly say you know perfectly, I’d argue you don’t really “own” them at all – they’re just waste, clogging up your search results, library lists… and thinking. I teach that your DJ collection needs to be lean, clean and most importantly, known to you like the back of your hand. The video and article are designed to work together.ġ. Important: Watch this video first, then use the notes underneath to understand each point better. You may choose to use it differently, but at least this will give you a flavour of what it could do for you. This is why I thought it would be useful to show you exactly how I use beaTunes that way you can see some of the decisions I’ve made and why. Likewise how you use it to fit in with any other programs you use to organise your music is completely up to you (it can calculate key, for instance, and is very good at that, but you may choose to use another program or your DJ software to do that instead for you).Īs always, our advice for your “music workflow” (from “download to DJ set”) is “simple, logical, repeatable” – give yourself an over-complicated workflow and the chances are a few weeks or months down the line you’ll give up, and end up in a bigger mess that you were in before you started. So while what you decide to do (or not do) with it deserves some thought on your part, once you’ve worked that stuff out, it’s very powerful. There’s a download link for a two-week trial here and at the end of this article, and it’s pretty cheap to buy – US$34.95 at last check.īefore we get going, it’s important to note that this is one of those pieces of software where there is absolutely no single way to use it properly or fully. One thing we rarely talk about here is software to use alongside your DJ app (and iTunes, if you use it) to help you create better DJ sets. Analysis is an essential part of using beaTunes, because it gives the program a whole host of information about your songs that later on, helps it to suggest great playlists to you. ![]() What's the difference between the free and premium version of Adobe Creative Cloud Express? So, if you find that your guy friend is patiently listening and remembering the details of what you said, there’s a good chance he’s into you more than just a friend. Every word said in an argument five years prior. They look at things as the big picture, while women are experts and remember everything from anniversary dates and birthdays to details of a weekend away. Some say that men do not remember details because they’re wired to be the provider. When a woman initiates a conversation, the man automatically assumes she is seeking his advice or assistance-something that he can solve for her. So, men are also conditioned to listen actively. At the same time, women take the time to listen and process information carefully, mentally storing details for future reference. They want nothing more than to fix a situation and get it over and done. Furthermore, men are problem solvers and are quick in decision-making. So, when he’s listening actively, he’s telling you that he’s a man who likes you. But, when a guy likes you, he’ll notice things about you and seem more engaged in what you’re saying, often maintaining eye contact and open body language while you speak. Since emotions are processed primarily in the right hemisphere and language in the left, men also have difficulty connecting words to feelings as easily or effectively as women. When men listen, they process language using the brain’s left hemisphere while women process language through both the right and left hemispheres. Studies show that men only use one side of their brain when listening, while women use both sides. ![]() ![]() According to research, men, in particular, are not all too good at remembering details. It could be an office buddy or a male friend you recently started getting close to. Other times, you want to know if someone likes you before you make a move or take things forward. For instance, what are the signs a married man likes you more than a friend, or a single man at that? As a result, you experience genuine confusion as to if someone’s into you or not. Sometimes, it’s hard to differentiate subtle cues of romantic interest from friendliness or a bubbly, friendly personality. Maybe, you hold each other’s gaze for longer than you used to, or maybe, conversations that used to be friendly are bordering on flirty.Īnother possibility is that you met someone recently and wondered if they like you as more than a friend. The most undulated, complex sutures are found in the prolific ammonoids of the Cretaceous, the ammonites (below right). In contrast, ammonoid sutures dip and fold in undulations called lobes and saddles (below left). In nautiloids these lines are straight and are called simple sutures (above center and right). Sutures are contact lines between shell chamber walls (called septa) and the inner shell wall of nautiloid and ammonoid shells. In nautiloids, it runs through the center of the shell chambers, while in almost all planispiral ammonoids, it is found along the shell's outer edge (above left). The siphuncle is an internal tube that runs through and connects the chambers of the shell. ![]() The other two are of nautiloids exhibiting the simple sutures typical of the group. The photo on the left shows the position of the siphuncle in ammonoids. Though nautiloids and ammonoids may appear the same, they are easily distinguished by the location of their siphuncle and the shapes of their sutures. This morphology is very similar to many of the ammonoids, which first appear in coiled form in the Devonian Period. All have shells with nacre and interconnected internal chambers, similar to what we see in the modern nautilus. The earliest forms were orthoconic (having straight shells), but during the Ordovician the nautiloids experienced a rapid diversification and evolved a planispiral (coiled in a single plane) shell shape. Nautiloids are the earliest cephalopods found in the fossil record, appearing by the Late Cambrian. More familiar to us in the fossil record are the nautiloids, ammonoids, and belemnites. They flourished in Paleozoic oceans between the Ordovician (488 mya) and Triassic periods (200 mya) with shells that, in some species, reached nearly 10 meters in length. All members of these clades were squid-like, but had straight external shells called orthocones. So diverse in fact, that paleontologists have identified three distinct fossil clades that are entirely extinct: Endoceratoidea, Actinoceratoidea, and Bactritoidea (cladogram A, at right). Clearly the lineages of extinct taxa were prolific and diverse. There are about 17,000 named species of fossil cephalopods, compared to the 800 identified living species of cephalopods. Today, biologists and paleontologists continue to captivate the human mind and imagination with details of these molluscs' behavior, natural history, and evolution. From myths about their enigmatic fossilized remains to fantastic accounts of tentacled sea monsters, cephalopods also figure prominently in the literature and folklore of human societies around the world. Their lengthy evolutionary history spans an impressive 500 million years and the abundant fossils they've left behind (mostly shelled nautiloids and ammonoids) record repeated speciation and extinction events. In the early days of the band, Simon Le Bon was always a bit ambiguous with his lyrics, and this big single from 1983’s Seven and the Ragged Tiger album is no exception. Here’s our pick for the top ten Duran Duran songs. While their best work was their earlier, more pop-oriented songs, there are still a handful of more recent tracks that are certainly worthwhile. The band put out lots of music in the early ‘80s - a studio album each in 1981, ‘82, and ‘83, plus a live album in ‘84 - and kept creating through the ‘90s and into the 2000s and 2010s. Le Bon was and still is brilliant as a lead vocalist, Rhodes was perpetually innovative on synths, Andy Taylor’s prowess on guitar was well respected (he was even tapped to play lead on Belinda Carlisle’s 1986 hit “Mad About You”), John Taylor was no slouch on bass and Roger? He kept the beat and kept his mouth shut, which is exactly what you want from a good drummer. And again, in their early ‘80s prime, the individual members - Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, Andy Taylor, John Taylor, and Roger Taylor (no relation among the three Taylors) - were handsome, stylish, and seemingly made for the camera. There was also the name, which just rolled off the tongue and was taken right from a character in Barbarella, the cult Jane Fonda sci-fi flick from the late ‘60s, which added to its cool cache.
